Blessed Hope Community Church held their annual in town mission project, Faith in Action. The church compiles a list of locations in the community that need assistance. Sometimes people are nominated and some ask for help. In total, this year the church was able to serve 23 households.

Between 65 and 80 adults helped each day and more than 100 children participated in the various activities. On some of those days, youth in the area saw what was going on and joined the efforts.

Projects included:

Scraping and painting a 1-story home, siding a house, tree removal, cleaning out a garage, installing handles that latch & lock on house doors, replacing cranks to open windows, and adding a Central AC fan.

Several projects included yard clean up where teams trimmed shrubs, weeded around houses, moved perennials, stained a deck & front porch, sealed two decks, deep cleaned a house, leveled a walkway, placed cement blocks along the walkway and mixed concrete to put in the blocks.

The crews also cleaned gutters, fixed a handicap ramp, washed windows, changed lightbulbs, cleaned ceiling fans, installed a flagpole in the yard, power washed decks and houses, remove broken appliances, trimmed trees, paint trim on a garage, raked leaves, removed vines from side of house and bushes, hauled away trash and brush replaced a section of fascia and reattached the cover, reset a fence gate, repaired a garage structure, painted and repaired trim and door frames.

At another location, there was a total overhaul of the yard to help avoid condemnation from the city.

To keep the crews running a kitchen crew provided breakfast, lunch & dinner, snacks and beverages for three days. A crew also delivered lunches to crews on worksites and to all of the homeowners. Others unable to work covered the town and crews in prayer every morning.

The children had fun playing Bingo at the Lutheran Home, spending time at the splash pad, and drawing pictures for residents with sidewalk chalk at both the Lutheran Home and Virginia Gay Hospital's Nursing and Rehab.

Blessed Hope Community Church provides help to as many area residents as they can in the three day project free of charge to those in need.
