The possibility of tornados, strong winds, hail and all the damage that comes with these storms are expected to arrive in our area this afternoon.

Area schools are closing early to avoid having the high provile buses loaded with children on the roads during the event.

Belle Plaine at 1:00 p.m.

Benton Community at 12:00 p.m.

Center Point-Urbana at 12:45 p.m.

Central Lutheran at 12:00 p.m.

Vinton-Shellsburg was already scheduled for an early out today.

Scott Hansen of Benton County Emergency Management issued a simple warning concerning the upcoming storms. "I want to stress these storms will likely be fast moving at 50-60 mph so when a warning is issued you may not have much time to seek shelter."

Be ready, be prepared, and be quick! If the sirens sound, it's because Hansen believes we are about to get hit hard. If your children have bicycle helmets, put them in your safe place now along with any other supplies you might need.
