The following arrest as well as a little of the story shared by a local mother is a reminder to parents and their children that the internet is not a safe place.
Roshaun Demetrius Collins, 21, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin was arrested on February 15, 2023, in Milwaukee after abducting a 13-year-old girl from Benton County.
According to the mother, neighbors witnessed the child entering a silver or gray SUV early on Monday morning, February 13. The family didn't hear anything from the girl until Wednesday. The girl was able to contact her family, talking quickly and quietly, the whole time she reassured her family that she was fine. The phone that the teenager called from had the location tracker turned off. While talking to the family, she had tried to misdirect the family to a location in Illinois, just outside the St. Louis area.
At the time of the abduction, the teen had not taken anything with her, but she had taken the phone. T-Mobile was able to track the phone pinging her location to be on I-94 between Madison and Milwaukee.
The Benton County Sheriff's Department issued warrants for Collins for Child Stealing and Harboring a Runaway.
Law enforcement located the girl in Wisconsin some 286 miles east of her home, along with the suspect. Collins was later arrested and charged on February 15, on multiple accounts of Repeated Sexual Assault of Same Child and Intent. Contribute/Delinquency (Felony).
The Milwaukee Sheriff's Department said that Collins was released on bail, on the report it says "Bond amount $2,500(1)" on February 23, 2023
