According to the Iowa State Patrol, an accident occurred on 61st St. Lane heading eastbound in the 2800 block in Benton County at about 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2022.
A 2001 Dodge Ram belonging to Francis Baldrus of Jewell, Iowa pulled out to pass the 2013 Polaris Ranger UTV carrying William Geater 76, and Mary McElhinney 60, both of Vinton.
As the two vehicles approached the intersection the Baldrus vehicle was preparing to pass the UTV when the UTV turned left into the path of the Dodge Ram.
The UTV was struck rolling it into the ditch ejecting both passengers. The truck stopped on the shoulder.
The accident is still under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. The patrol was assisted by several area departments including the Benton County Sheriff's Department and Benton County First Responders.
