AmeriCorps and the Vinton-Shellsburg High School Freshman AG class, have lent their hands in the harvesting of the produce from Old School Produce.

It is estimated that to date, the gardens have produced around 1,800 lbs of carrots with more to go. Last week found the tomatoes coming on strong and the onions husked. Waiting to be harvested next are the Acorn, Delecata and Butternut squash.

The garden had some help digging potatoes and it's fun to watch the action, click here!

This year, the gardens have produced 5,000 pounds of produce and expect to harvest another 10,000 before the season ends. The total amount of vegetables raised since 2019 is 27,000 pounds of food. Greg Walston said that the need is so much greater this year than it has been before.

The vegetables to the public. Can I go to the old west school and buy some veggies?

Editor's note: The gardens raise the produce to give away to area food pantries.
