Another successful weekend is in the books for Boomfest/Boomtown 2022! The Kiwanis started off with the annual Bring the Noise 5K race covering a section of Vinton.

While that was happening, Boomfest was taking shape in the downtown area. Many businesses and vendors set up their wares to display for residents and visitors alike.

Originally, Boomtown started out as an extension of the fall meeting of the Iowa Pyrotechnic Association and club shoot. The now allows the hobbyist shell builders both young and old to exhibit their many talents via the Boomtown event. With shells being built with a design in mind or to include various features or as a tribute to someone special in the builder's world, the show from start to finish is always worth more than the entrance fee.

This year's show was dedicated to Tim Canny, a longtime member of IPA who passed away earlier this year. Tim helped thousands learn how to build the shells both locally and at the PGI convention.

Throughout the show, cheers could be heard for each homebuilt entry from the beginning of the show to the very last. While the group plans all year to entertain, their first and most important concern is of course the safety of all those who came to be entertained. The group carefully works to ensure safety during the show which at times allows for a pause between displays. Be sure to follow the link below to the IPA - Iowa Pyrotechnic Association's Facebook page where you can see video from the announcer's booth of the opening show here. (Scroll through all of the other videos on the page for even more coverage of the group's handiwork and to see what they've been up to in the last few weeks!)

Sure, rain tried to cancel this year's fireworks show, but failed, after all, "the show must go on" and it did!

Hats off to all of the men and women and yes, even kids who made this year yet another spectacular event!

Kudos to the Vinton Kiwanis, Vinton Unlimited and all of the hardworking folks at the IPA and those who made the Civil War Reenactment possible. Thanks also to the public safety workers who were on hand, just in case you were needed and the many other folks who volunteered to bring the fun to Vinton this weekend!
