Eight Pack 47 Cub Scouts went home with trophies Saturday morning after the pack's annual Pinewood Derby. The boys, with help from their parents, cut the cars from small blocks of pine, added wheels and weights and then tested their little vehicles on the track.
Webelo Jordan Thompson had the fastest car on Saturday. Next year, however, the Cub Scouts are sure to crown a new champion; this is Jordan's last year as a Cub Scout before he advances to the Boy Scouts.
The Scout with the fastest car in each level were:
Tiger: Braden Stainbrook
Wolf: Hunter Hillman
Bear: Cody Young
Webelo: Jordan Thompson
The car design winners from this year's event included:
Best Paint: John McNeill (His car featured the ISU logo.)
Most Original: Anton Benjederdes
Judge's Choice: Jacob James (He made his car look like an Army tank.)
Best Design: Brandon Dighton (He created a true race car design.)
Scouts built approximately 20 cars; several adults also created their own Pinewood Derby car for an open class race.
