"I want to tell you about something that happened to me yesterday," the message said. That always sounds intriguing if someone felt the need to call and tell me that. So I called back and said, "So tell me about what happened."
"I was walking along 13th St. and I didn't have my dog with me this time. I heard a car going the other direction and stop behind me. I heard the car door close, but I didn't think anything of it, I assumed that whoever it was had stopped at a house along the street. Then a man from the car said that he wanted to give me something," the caller explained.
Right away my radar was going off, "You didn't know who it was though right?" "No, I don't have a clue who it was. But he said that he wanted to give me some cash for the holiday season." The caller explained that they told the man that they didn't need the money, which was $200, but the man insisted and wouldn't take the gift back, saying that he felt like he needed to do this.
The caller thanked the man and then told him that they would probably be giving it to the local Legion, and the man said that it was fine, it was now the caller's money.
The caller asked me to pass along this message., "Thank you for your giving spirit and it reminded me to go the extra mile giving as well."
To the anonymous giver, thanks for making Vinton a little brighter this Christmas season!
