Vinton-Shellsburg basketbal fans and parents bid on a pink basketball and the black and pink warm-up jerseys worn by the Vikings during their Pink Night game vs. Solon Friday in Vinton.

The auction at halftime raised almost $2,500 (after expenses) which will go to Virginia Gay Hospital for its breast cancer treatment and diagnosis efforts.

Kathy Tranel, the mother of Viking junior Gunner Tranel, organized the project. Because Duane Johnson was out of the state, Darrel Cannon served as auctioneer. Every varsity player had a jersey to sell. The varsity girls took turns holding the jerseys while the boys had their customary halftime discussion with coach Joe Johnson.
