If ever there was a person born to be doing a job it would be Melody Snow. She was chosen to fill the position of Vinton Unlimited Director, beginning on Wednesday this week. Melissa Schwan had previously filled the position, Schwan and now moved on to be the City Clerk.

Snow's first day of work was Wednesday. A Vinton native who has had her very own business cards printed up, long before this job became available, that read, "Vinton Enthusiast." Snow is also a former Vinton-Shellsburg Employee and is able to say that she's worked in every building in the district. She's been part of the district for the past 7 1/2 years and before that, she worked in the Cedar Rapids school district. She sent out an email last night just to thank everyone there, not telling them where she was going. Snow is also active in Pourville Art Studio and Gallery as well as the Historical Society, serving as the secretary.

She has had a long time love affair with Vinton. She said when she used to live in Cedar Rapids, when her four kids would ask what they were going t do for the day, she said her answer was usually, "Let's go to Vinton!" She said she'd load her four kids in the car and come to Vinton to drive around and point out, that's how much she loves her hometown. When she was able to move back she said she felt like she was finally back home. Her goal is to help everyone love Vinton as much as she does. She is very passionate about Vinton, and feels like this is a perfect fit.

Teresa Meyer, a member of the Vinton Unlimited Board said when the VU organization first began it was more of a community effort with large community meetings designing a plan for the direction of the office. Now it has become supported by more businesses and fewer individuals but with the same goal, to keep Vinton on the map and give people a desire to be here. The office is involved in many of the large city-wide events, Boom-fest, the Christmas Open House downtown as well as the new local hotel tax program that helps area businesses, parades and etc.

Stop in at City Hall and wish Snow well as she leads Vinton Unlimited.
