News : Mayor Thanks Area Police Officers for their Service

Chief Paxton,

As I watch the events surrounding the death of Mr. Floyd go from peaceful to violent and now into an all-out attack on Law Enforcement everywhere, I feel you need to know that as Mayor I thank you and the entire department for your dedication.

I know it's extremely difficult to be in Law Enforcement with the current state of affairs, yet the entire Vinton Police Department has shown great fortitude and resolve throughout these times. I consider it an honor to be associated with a group of people that are dedicated to their profession and maintain the oath that they made to protect all of us, equally and without bias.

Strong character, honesty and passion are attributes I see in every member of the department. Qualities we should all strive to make a part of our own lives. Vinton is very fortunate to have such high-level people protecting its citizens.

As Law Enforcement Professionals and friends, you have my respect, gratitude and full support.
