In Vinton Today's third participation in and conducting candidate forums, the special election for Vinton's 2nd was added to the list.

The election has had a lot of attention because of the confusion surrounding the filling of the position.

A group gathered at the library on Thursday evening to listen to the candidates.

The three candidates, Leon Barber, Andrew Elwick and Kurt Karr were all invited to attend.

The event was scheduled. Unlike other forums, all candidates were presented with a list of possible questions so that each could be prepared.

Candidates Barber and Elwick declined the invitation. Vinton Today reached out and invited the two candidates to answer questions in writing if they preferred and weren't comfortable being on camera and there was no response from the two with this offer either. So Vinton Today went ahead without their participation and held the event.

Kurt Karr attended the event and spoke to those in attendance and visited with the crowd following.

The forum can be seen here.

A special thank you to all of the residents who submitted questions, we had some great questions. Thanks also to the residents that attended and for caring about what happens in your community.

Early voting is now available as well as the ability to request an absentee ballot from the Auditor's Office.
