The city council opened with the pledge of allegiance.
At last night's council meeting Mayor Bud Maynard read a letter from At-Large Council Member Brian Parr in which Parr made his intentions known to move from the city limits which would make his seat available to be filled. Parr sent the letter to the Mayor with the intention that his seat could be filled at the next general election so as to not cost the city any additional expense for a special election. Parr has 2 years remaining on his position that would need to be filled.
Tami Stark reported on the General Government meeting with the desire to streamline the process for nuisance properties/issues moving forward.
Under Old Business, the council approved the new flood map. The hope is for the wetland project to help with this situation.
The Noren Addition final plat was presented and approved.
A discussion was held on amending the fence ordinance. Tami Stark presented a draft for an amendment that addresses issues that had arisen in the community in the past.
The council also approved the purchase of a rear blade for a city tractor from Kromminga.
Also for approval was the disbursement of LOST funds, $19,900 to Vinton Community Foundation.
It was decided that Andrew McKenna be reimbursed for a sidewalk installation.
The council also discussed potential artwork on the east side of the city hall building. Lu Karr asked for a site to be created where people can walk up and get their picture taken with the artwork. A preliminary idea was of something with angel wings. The council also discussed the improvements in the area with the Minions that are popping up and how the movement seems to be spreading to other parts of town.
A meeting with the company that will be building the wetland scheduled on August 22nd at 6:00 p.m. The company will be coming down from Minnesota to speak with the council.
The council then moved into a closed session as per Iowa Code 21.5(c) which is used to discuss strategy in matters that are presently in litigation or where litigation is imminent where its disclosure would be likely to prejudice or disadvantage the position of the governmental body in that litigation.
