Our sesquicentennial celebration is right around the corner! Since the announcement of the celebration, numerous people have offered their assistance with projects if needed (sure makes your grateful for small town living!).

If you and/or your family are willing to lend a hand, we would be grateful! Below is a list of dates and items that will require a large team to accomplish the task. If you are willing to help out, please contact the Vinton Unlimited office. If you leave a voicemail, please include your name, time available and phone number in case we need to get back in contact with you.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 17 –

· 7 am – Husking 4,000+ ears of sweet corn. Please meet in the back parking lot of the high school, near the kitchen entrance.

· 8-11am – Cooking and packaging sweet corn. Please meet in the back parking lot of the high school. We will be using the kitchen at the high school for the cooking. After cooking, each ear will need to be buttered and wrapped in tin foil.

· 11am-2pm – Serving of sweet corn. The corn will be given away near Michael & Dowd until the start of the parade at 2 pm. Any corn remaining after the parade will be given away in Celebration Park that evening.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 21 –

· 7 am – We will begin setting up 11 mural work stations. Tasks will include laying out plastic, setting up tables and tents, possibly assisting with scaffold setup and delivering painting supplies. Some heavy lifting may be needed; please wear closed toe shoes. Meet in the Governor Sherman building on 1st Avenue.

COOLERS

· We are also looking for coolers to store and transport the cooked corn. Coolers can be dropped off in the back parking lot of the high school on Friday, August 16th and can be picked up in the Governor Sherman building on Monday, August 19th. No styrofoam coolers, please. Make sure your cooler is labeled clearly with your name and phone number.
