Pat Morrow, the minion-maker, has a sign made from a wood pallet in her kitchen. It reads, “You are never too old to do goofy stuff.” The whimsical minions she and her husband Dave have created show that she lives by that saying.
Pat’s grandson Zack has been a big fan of the minions in the Despicable movies and one day when she looked down an alley she didn’t see a yellow pole guarding a gas meter, she saw a minion. Still, according to Pat, it took quite a while for the complete idea to come to life.
The couple scouts Goodwill stores, Stuff, and other outlets for used clothing, and combining what they find with a lot of creativity, they have fashioned minions in themes matching their location. Dave has been buying yellow spray paint to make sure the minion-candidate has a bright shine before the clothes, goggles, and other adornments go on.
Getting ready for the Sesquicentennial was part of Pat’s motivation. “When you have people coming to your home for a visit, you make an effort to make sure everything looks nice, and this is our way of doing that for the community.”
Pat, Dave, and Lu Karr recently worked an entire weekend to spruce up City Hall. They removed some of the old bushes that weren’t flourishing and replaced them with flowers. Dave removed the sod, and the three put 5 ½ cubic yards of mulch in its place.
It’s a great time to drive around town to look for your favorite minion and to do what you can to make Vinton shine for the visitors who will be here later in the month.
