Vinton’s Sesquicentennial is quickly approaching! We have been working on this celebration for quite some time and we are entering the home stretch. We are working hard to honor our past and celebrate the future.

Check out www.vinton150.org. The website is the hub for all things relating to the celebration. We are continually adding information as events and details are finalized so check back often! Be sure to follow the Vinton’s 150thCelebration event on Facebook also!

Our grand parade will be on Saturday, August 17th starting at 2pm. Information on the parade, including the float contest, is on the website. This is going to be the biggest and best parade of the summer, but we need your help to do it! Prizes will be given to the best float in the categories of 1) business, 2) organization/church/civic group and 3) family/neighborhood. No cost to enter, prizes and bragging rights are on the line!

The Walldog mural artists are scheduled to arrive on the evening of Wednesday, August 21st. We are still seeking a few host families for the artists. Please contact Melissa if you are interested. The Walldogs are going to put in long hours to complete 11 mural projects in just 4 days. We plan to update a few of the existing murals and add some new murals too!

Applications are being accepted for Miss Sesquicentennial until May 31. We are hoping to bring back a bit of Vinton’s history by holding this contest. Starting in 1929, Vinton had a Sweet Corn Days Queen and court but the contest has not been held since 1959. Details and applications are available here, as well as Cameron’s Clothing and the Vinton Unlimited office in City Hall.

We are well on our way to our fundraising goal but are still accepting sponsorships. If you’d like more information on this opportunity, visit the sponsorship page on the website.

We sure hope you can join us for the festivities beginning Saturday, August 17th!
