Friday started out like any other day this past month...check the schedule to see where Santa will be visiting. I have to admit, I figured we'd see another meet and greet with Santa. Shellsburg Elementary left me smiling for more reasons than one this Christmas season. I made it to the morning assembly in time to see the principal, Ryan Davis along with his side kick Aiden Parmater entertaining the students with the necessary information for the school. There were announcements of which classes had perfect attendance, which class had the most box tops (note to moms and dads, be sure to save those for the kids over Christmas and New Years). There were announcements that the school will also be collecting pop tabs until the end of the year to raise money for the children's hospitals.  They also shared that through a toiletry drive, the school donated over 1,000 items to the Shellsburg food pantry this past month. Children have also been visiting Rock Ridge, the nursing home next door to the school and cheering up the residents there. There is a LOT happening in Shellsburg.  Most importantly, today the kids had a bit of fun with Santa, well, that was after they had fun with the Grinch himself, who stomped down the bleachers to the thrill of all of the kids.  Santa also arrived to the sound of the children singing "Here Comes Santa Claus". Santa handed out treats to the teachers on his naughty and nice list.  Naughty teachers made students get out of bed early to come to practice, or they might, perhaps ride into the parking lot on the principal's bumper. But all the teachers, naughty or nice received a treat. Some were caramel apples, and some had a lump of coal. After all the excitement and laughter from the children, each of them had a chance to see Santa, give him a hug or shake his hand and then take home a candy cane.  The Grinch, well, he just entertained the kids some more. Some gave him a wide berth and others danced with him or gave him a fist bump.  But all, left the gym with a smile on their face. To see all the pictures from today, click here!
