With the coming of the winter snow season, Vinton Police are seeking everyone's help in complying with the City’s ordinances about removing vehicles from the public street right of way's and City parking lots after measurable snowfalls, and keeping them off the streets until the snow has stopped falling and the streets have been plowed.

"We're could be experiencing the first significant snowfall of the year in Vinton over the next 48 hours, and we need everyone's help to get the word out to get all cars off the streets and City parking lots, and to keep them off until the snow has stopped AND those areas have been plowed by the City crews". Jeff Tilson, Vinton Police Chief said today.

"This has been an ongoing concern for the City with the rising fuel prices we've seen over the past few years.  Every extra pass the Street Department has to make to get the streets plowed costs every taxpayer more than it should---budgets are tight." Tilson added.

Tilson said that vehicles must be completely off the improved portion of the roadway. "We don't want the plows clipping vehicles or trailers that are almost, but not quite off the streets.  We have areas where there isn't a clearly defined curb, but the plows will make every effort to clean the improved portion of the roadway everywhere in town."

Tilson asked residents to spread the word to friends, neighbors and others who may not know the ordinances or get the local papers.  "If you see a neighbor with their car on the street, pass the word for us, this needs to be a community effort."  he added.

City Ordinances and State law make the registered owner of a vehicle responsible for any parking violations issued to the vehicle.

Vinton Police will be actively ticketing vehicles which are in violation of these ordinances after any measurable snowfall.
