[caption id="attachment_20221" align="alignleft" width="260"] 7th grader Alyssa Griffith finished 2nd in the high jump, at 4 feet, four inches, just one inch behind the first place winner.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_20222" align="alignright" width="285"] Samantha Walton's first-place discus throw of 94 feet, 7 inches was 24 feet further than the second-place finisher.[/caption] The Vinton-Shellsburg Middle School girls track teams hosted several other schools for the annual Little Vikette Relays on Tuesday. The 8th grade team won its meet; the 7th grade athletes finished second in team scoring Winning for the 8th graders were: Samantha Walton, discus, 94 feet, seven inches; Abby Bartz, shot put, 31 feet, 11 inches; 4 x 200 relay team; 800 sprint medley. The 7th graders finished second to Clear Creek-Amana. Jade Coots scored 28 of the team's 106 points. Jade won the 200M dash with a time of 28.69 seconds and the 400M event with a time of 1:07.85. Other Vikette 7th grade winners include Sophia Kreutner, discus, 79 feet, 4 inches; the 4 x 100 relay team and the 800 sprint medley relay. See more photos HERE.
