The City of Vinton has received seven responses from its request for proposals (RFP) seeking a replacement for a garbage hauler. Herb Boots notified the city recently that he plans to retire and sell his equipment. City Manager Chris Ward said during a Q and A session Thursday morning at the Vinton library that replacing Herb's may mean changes in the kinds of containers that residents will use for disposing of trash. Friday, June 29 will be the last day that Herb's crews pick up trash. City leaders are working quickly to ensure that a successor is in place and able to start July 1. Ward explained that some of the haulers that expressed interest in serving Vinton use larger containers for trash and recycling. The City Council will soon be reviewing the proposals and bids.
