Lillie Lamont, pictured here taking a practice swing to start the meet on No. 1, led VS with a 41 on a very windy day at the Wildcat.[/caption]
A lot of wind and water hazards complicated the playing as the Vinton-Shellsburg girls golf team hosted Benton at the Wildcat course in Shellsburg on Tuesday. Yet, despite the difficult conditions, VS won with its best team score of the season.
Lillie Lamont led the Vikings to victory with a 41.

This was a great bounce back night! We were disappointed in our team score yesterday at the Wamac West division Tourney, but tonight we showed a stellar effort to right our ship. Sophomore Lillie Lamont had a super round which included a birdie on the par 3 #4 hole. Seniors Brandi Gerber and Rachel Tandy were solid in shooting matching 45s; freshman Lauren Murray was so close to attaining a round in the 40s with her lowest score in competition, a 50. Our team goal is to attain “4 in the 40s”. 181 is our lowest team score this season and Wildcat proved to be friendly confines for the young ladies. Ms Gerber had low putts with 17.
Monday varsity travels to Thunder Hills near Peosta for the WaMaC Super Meet, an all day tourney. Thursday we will play in the 18 hole Prairie Invitational with a noon start at Airport National outside of Cedar Rapids. We finish the week at the annual South Tama Invitational on Saturday, May 12.
