On Friday, April 27, 2018, at approximately 9:16 a.m., multiple local public safety agencies responded to a report of a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in the 100 block of W. 4th Street in Vinton. Responders arrived and found a 36-year old Vinton man pinned beneath a 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck in front of LaGrange Pharmacy. The injured victim was transported to a Cedar Rapids hospital after an extensive rescue operation to free him. The female driver of a 2011 Buick Lacrosse was uninjured. The driver of the Buick was attempting to back out of a parking space when she struck the parked Chevrolet truck and pushed it on top of the pedestrian. This investigation is still ongoing and no charges have been filed at this time. The Vinton Police Department, Vinton Fire Department, North Benton Ambulance, and the Benton County Sheriff’s Office responded to this incident.
