The 2019 Vinton Sesquicentennial Committee is partnering with the Benton County Historical Society to gather information on the last 150 years of Vinton’s history.
“We are looking for photos and stories on the following topics: Vinton businesses, baseball in Vinton, the Benton County Fair, Sweet Corn Days and passenger train service to Vinton,” says VU Director Melissa Schwan.
Information gathered may be used in a new Historical Society publication, used as reference material for the Walldogs in creation of a new mural or other celebration related activities.
There will be three meetings for residents to share their knowledge of local history. They will take place September 18, October 16 and November 13th from 6:30pm to 8:00pm (open house format) in the 2019 Headquarters (303 1st Ave – Governor Sherman Building).
The week-long celebration set for next August will include music, the Boomtown fireworks show and the return to Vinton of the Wall Dogs mural painters, and many other events.
