News : DCI releases names of mother, son killed in Belle Plaine train incident

Members of the Iowa DCI have released the names of the mother and son who were killed in a train-pedestrian incident Friday in Belle Plaine. The subjects involved in the Belle Plaine train/pedestrian accident have been identified as; Teresa Catherine Gerleman (age 36) and her son, Henry Fields (age 8) both of Belle Plaine. The Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner has scheduled the autopsies for the aforementioned on Thursday, May 10, 2018. No additional information will be released pending the autopsy results.

On May 4, 2018, at approximately 4:57 AM, the Belle Plaine Police Department (BPPD) responded to the 9th Street railroad crossing reference a train/pedestrian accident. Upon arrival, BPPD located two deceased individuals, an approximately 35 year old Caucasian female and an approximately 8 year old Caucasian male. Union Pacific Railroad is cooperating with the investigation.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) was asked to assist with the investigation as was the Iowa State Patrol, Benton County Sheriff's Office, Benton County Ambulance Service and the Benton County Fire Department.
