Alex Lon Johnson, 59, of Norway, Iowa, passed away peacefully Friday, March 9, 2018, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics surrounded by his loving family. Service: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, at Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 3:30 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 12, at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood, Cedar Rapids. Alex was born March 18, 1958, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Donald and Marlene (Hoskins) Johnson. He graduated from Marion High School in 1976 and continued his education at Kirkwood Community College. Alex married Rose Dietz in 1982. He worked 32 years as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, where he made many lifelong friends. In 2003, Alex married Becky Krekeler in Cedar Rapids and began a 15-year journey of shared love for family, nature, travel and each other. Alex enjoyed the outdoors, whether it be hunting, golfing, fishing or going hiking and traveling with Becky. His passions included the Civil War, history, boxing and last, but not least, the Detroit Lions. He was a very humble man who always was looking out for others and could always make you laugh or smile. Alex was survived by his wife, Becky; mother, Marlene Weidman of Wimberley, Texas; Alex and Becky's boys, Dan Johnson of Cedar Rapids, Tim Johnson of Raleigh, N.C., Matthew (Sonia) Stover and children, Adrian and Bella, of Cedar Rapids, Carlin (Angel) Stover and children, Gabie and Kyran, of Cedar Rapids, and Tim Stover of Cedar Rapids; brother, R.J. Johnson of Iowa City; sister, Elisa (Timm) Harding of Wimberley, Texas, and children Kristie Stricker, Rob Harding, Tim Harding and Karilynn Harding; uncle, Jerry Sabin of Nevada, Iowa; and mother-in-law, Patricia Krekeler of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Johnson; brother, Jeffrey Lee Johnson; first wife, Rose; and dear aunt, Sheila Sabin. A memorial fund has been established in Alex's memory.
