One of those traditions is the Flag Retirement Ceremony with the Vinton American Legion.
The Scouts joined the Legion members at the Post 57 Legion Hall Friday evening for a final salute and retirement by burning of dozens of worn flags.
The Scouts stood with the veterans and saluted, and helped pile the flags on the rack for burning. They then joined the vets inside for hot chocolate and cookies.
