ACT I of Benton County is pleased to announce a special cooperative event with The Old Creamery Theatre Company of Amana.

On Saturday, November 20 and Sunday, November 21, 2010, The Old Creamery will present the play "Educating Rita" by Willy Russell at the Vinton Country Club, as part of a dinner theatre program sponsored by ACT I.

Performing will be Tom Milligan, Producing Director of the Old Creamery Theatre, and company member Deborah Kennedy. Milligan was seen recently performing the role of George in "Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf" and directed the company’s current hit production of "Blithe Spirit." Kennedy recently appeared with the company as Mrs. Engleson in "Church Basement Ladies" and currently plays the role of Ruth Condomine in "Blithe Spirit."

This will be a great opportunity for local patrons to enjoy a production by The Old Creamery for a bargain price. Tickets to the event are only $22 per person, which includes the meal served by the Country Club staff as well as the performance. The event will begin both evenings with a social hour at 5:30 followed by dinner at 6:00 and the performance at 7:00.

Reservations can be made by calling the ACT I box office at 472-9957.

"Educating Rita" is a heartwarming comedy about an adult college student and the relationship that develops with a professor who tutors her in English literature, as she develops a newfound personal independence.

ACT I Joins in Supporting School Fine Arts Programs

ACT I has again, this year, joined the Vinton-Shellsburg Fine Arts Century Club. We believe the Fine Arts are an integral part of any thriving community, and see it as a responsibility to do what we can to enhance and encourage them whenever and wherever possible. The Century Club provides support for the Fine Arts programs in the school in a variety of ways and is wholly dependent on memberships to fund these endeavors. It is exciting for us to be part of this Grass Roots organization of concerned citizens who believe support of the Fine Arts is an investment in the future. What better return can one have for their money than the thrill of someone’s first All State instrumental or vocal solo, the excitement of playing in an Honor Band, the fun and energy of a Jazz Band festival, the awe of your surroundings in performing an All State selection in speech, the mental and technical challenge of participating in State Debate competition, or having the lights come up on your first theatrical performance. If you have not already done so, consider joining us and many others in this partnership to keep the Fine Arts vital and give our community’s children the opportunities to experience any or all of the possibilities the Fine Arts offer.
