From A to V (sorry W, X, Y and Z) there are more than 2500 words in the English dictionary with the letter Q.

Aabsquatulate starts the trend, alphabetically speaking; ventriloquoy ends it.

And every one of the words in the English dictionary with a Q also contains a U after the Q.

Scrabble makes an exception (It allows foreign words and abbreviations such as Tranq for tranquilizor).

But the dictionary does not.

For that reason, the students at Tilford Elementary celebrate again this year the wedding of Q and U.

"I the letter Q, take you, the letter U, to be my letter partner to stand beside me in every word, in cursive or in printing," said Q, played this year by Kay Fett. "One syllable or five to never let another letter stand between us. I promise to lead you in each word so that all the words may be spelled correctly for as long as the English language shall exist."

U (Riley Richart) promised to accompany Q in all of her letters.

"I promise to follow you in each word so that all the words may be spelled correctly for as long as the English language shall exist."

"They will be together forever to spell words such as: Quarter, quack, quill, quiver, quiet, quick, question, quandary, quarter, quip, and quest," said Principal Jim Murray, who wore a purple tuxedo as he officiated the ceremony.

"Like other married couples, they will have quarrels,' said Mr. Murray. "But even so, they must stick together like quicksand to solve any quandaries."

Q and U lit a unity candle after saying their vows and exchanging rings. The students then enjoyed cupcakes at a reception, where they danced the Hokie Pokie, the Chicken Dance and Splish, Splash.
