News : Vikings sweep on track: VS boys varsity, 8th and 7th grade teams capture team titles Tuesday

The VS Vikings high school track team poses with the S. Tama Invite winner's plaque. Tuesday was a great day for VS Vikings track. The varsity team captured the team title at the South Tama Invitational, while the 7th and 8th grade teams did the same at the Independence Middle School Invitational. Viking varsity winners include: Tyler Bartz: 200M; 22.60; 400M, 50.53 4 x 100 Relay (Conner Miracle, Conner Bendull, Blake Bohnsack, Seth Lazenby), 44.67 4 x 200 relay (Will Dudley, Blake Bohnsack, Seth Lazenby, Conner Miracle), 1;33.55 1600 Distance Medley (Axl Hoeppner, Justin Bartz, Conner Bendull, Cole Smith), 3:46.62 Senior Drew Wiley was a very close second in the shot put, just 1.25 inches from first place. Cole Overton was 2nd in the discus; Wiley, third. Both will compete at the Drake Relays this weekend. Also, the 4 x 400 team finished 2nd, .37 seconds from first. Those runners include:Justin Bartz, Cole Smith, Chase Dunbar and Josh Witham. See varsity results HERE. Winners for the Viking middle school teams in Independence include 7th grade: Max Vasquez, 100M, 12.55; 200M, 26.01 Logan Zearly, 100 hurdles, 15.75 (2.5 seconds ahead of the nearest finisher); 200 hurdles, 28.92 Alontae Wilson, long jump, 16-07.75 8th grade (the team finished with 157 points, more than twice as many as 2nd-place Independence) winners were: C.J. Rickels, 100 hurdles, 15.42; high jump, 5',6" David Lapan-Islas, 1600M, 5:10.98 4 x 100 relay ( Brooks Erickson, Noah Lindauer, Travis Hantz, Elijah Kalous), 51.41 4 x 200 relay (Travis Hantz, Elijah Kalous, Noah Lindauer, Landyn Rowe), 1:50.68 4 x 800 relay (Phillip Kalina, Eli Lint, Derron Hughes, David Lapan-Islas, 10:40.53 1600 distance medley (Noah Lindauer, Hunter Hillman, Bryce Radeke, Brayden Almquist), 4:48.84 Middle school coaches are: 7th-Steph Miller and Matt Hilby; 8th-Rich Haisman and Alexa Francois.
