Vinton, Louisiana, which got its name and many of its original settlers from Vinton, Iowa, celebrated its 100th year this past weekend.

On Oct. 10, 1910, Louisiana Governor Jared Sanders signed the documents formerly incorporating the area Vinton native Seaman Knapp had founded, along with many others from the Vinton, Iowa, area.

Vinton, Louisiana, which was one of the cities affected by Hurricane Katrina, in 2005, still has streets with names that would be very familiar to Vinton, Iowans, such as Horridge.
