Approximately 900 people attended the Vinton Fire Department's pancake breakfast Sunday at the fire station.

"It was a great day," said firefighter Scott Geissinger, who spent much of the day at the ticket table. "We had a tremendous response from the community."

Funds raised from the breakfast, along with a few recent donations, will allow the department to purchase another air pack for the aerial ladder truck, Geissinger said.

The pancake breakfast is a tradition for the VFD during the first week in October, as fire departments throughout the U.S. participate in Fire Prevention Week activities with schools and the community. The entries in the coloring contest were on display during the breakfast.
