The Monroe No. 5 one-room school house relocation and renovation project continues to make progress.

The Benton County Board of Supervisors will officially deed the property to the Benton County Historical Society after the required public hearing at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5.

Meanwhile, said Roberta Reifenstahl, plans for the renovation and moving of the school house to its permanent location near the Depot in Vinton continue.

Reifenstahl said it is likely that the roof will be replaced before the building is moved. The plans for its location east of the depot, on land donated by the Duello family, have been set. The foundation digging will take place in the near future. The building also needs siding, but the Historical Society may wait until the building has moved before beginning that project.

"We have a contractor who is really excited," said Reifenstahl.

The long-term plans are to use the schoolhouse for genealogy.
