Because of a tie in the voting among the Vinton-Shellsburg High School senior girls, there will be 21 candidates for Homecoming Queen and King this year, instead of the traditional 20.

The 11 Queen candidates and 10 King candidates were announced on Monday afternoon.

Queen candidates are:

Jena Relf, Kaley Womochil, Shelby Beyer, Codi Snider, Ashley Boyer, Molly Drake, Paige Kreutner, Erika Hammer, Nicole Thompson, Allison Emrich and Sydney Etten.

King candidates include:

Andy Roster, Logan Williams, Kody Seaton, John Lippmann, Wes Lyons, Alvin Long, Ian Storey, Alex McGee, Travis Libbert and David Ervin.

The Queen and King will be crowned during the Thursday evening pep rally which takes place after the parade and before the Powder Puff football game between junior and senior girls. The parade this year begins at the intersection of B Avenue and 4th Street and leads toward the school.

Monday was also class color day, with each class being assigned a different color. The goal of the contest was to see which class could have the most people wearing the assigned color. The sophomores, with the color red, were chosen as the winning class.
