Despite the weather, Boomfest went as well as it could have, said Vinton Unlimited Director Nathan Hesson.

"Of the 40 vendors who signed up, all but 10-15 showed up," said Hesson.

Bands played music on the courthouse lawn, as children enjoyed inflatable games and rock-climbing on First Avenue. Fourth Street was lined with vendors selling a variety of items.

The success of the first Boomfest is an indication that the event will be an important part of the 2011 Boomtown weekend, and in years to come said Hesson.

"I think the kids had a great time," he said. "And Brian Parr was a big hit."

Parr, the chain saw artist, carved a bear which was sold in a silent auction at Boomtown.

Another artist, Gloria Orcutt, had her paintings on display. And artist Karla Isbell sketched the faces of many children throughout the event.

Vendors sold a variety of items in booths up and down the street, and a wine-tasting offered samples of wines made in Iowa and available locally.
