A former Vinton resident has been arrested for stabbing his mother and step-father, resulting in the step-father’s death, in Tempe, Ariz., on Friday evening.

The Tempe Police Department has released the following information:

On Friday, March 4, 2016, at approximately 6:30 PM, Tempe Police Officers responded to a 911 call at 900 W Grove Parkway. When officers arrived, they found a male suspect inside an apartment stabbing his mother and stepfather. The suspect jumped from a second story window and fled from police. Due to a quick response from officers, the suspect was immediately located outside of the apartment complex and a TASER was deployed to take him into custody.

Officers in the apartment complex administered life-saving aid to the stepfather. Both victims were transported to area hospitals where the stepfather succumbed to his injuries and the mother is currently in stable condition.

Reports indicate that the suspect was recently suffering from mental health and drug abuse issues.

The suspect is identified as Blake Holten, age 27, of Tempe.

Holten remains in police custody at an area hospital where he is being treated for minor injuries sustained as a result of his jump from the second story window. Once discharged, he will be booked into jail on charges of Second Degree Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Kidnapping.

The deceased, Holten’s stepfather, is identified as Donovan Arneson, 46, of Iowa.

The second injured victim, Holten’s mother, is not being identified at this time. She remains in an area hospital.
