Every year, Boomtown is a little bigger, a little louder, and brings a few more people to Vinton.

This year, the growth in popularity of Vinton's "Party in the Dark" can be seen on your nightly news.

KCRG-TV 9 weatherman Joe Winters joined newswoman Ashley Hinson in covering Boomtown Friday evening.

Winters discussed the chance of rain affecting the activities of Saturday and Saturday evening. Hinson interviewed Iowa Pyrotechnic Association member Jerry Dixon. Dixon spoke about the organization, the annual fireworks show in Vinton and showed the television audience a sampling of shells made for this year's event.

At the end of the interview, Dixon asked Hinson to flip a switch that set off 10 simultaneous reports, or firework blasts. That noise, as well as other fireworks blasts were audible during the broadcasts.
