Rain has been an issue for the annual Boomtown event on several occasions. One year, there was so much rain during the day that the race track was covered with mud. Organizers had to cover the track with wood so they could cross into the infield to set up their displays.

But so far, the weather has allowed the Saturday evening fireworks contest and finale to proceed as planned.

This weekend, however, forecasters are predicting anything from a 40 to 90 percent chance of rain, with a chance of thunderstorms for Saturday.

For that reason, said Chuck Yedlik, much of the fireworks show set-up is scheduled for Friday. The IPA members will make sure the displays are guarded overnight.

Yedlik said several new displays will be seen this year, including a homemade 30-foot waterfall at the beginning of the public show.

There will also be a new contest (with a trophy offered) for the best multi-break shell. IPA members are anticipating several entries in this contest. These shells have several different explosion points, with a variety of colors and sounds.
