Fishing has always been good on the Cedar River. Local photos from times past and from today will be featured on one section of the “CELEBRATE THE CEDAR RIVER” exhibits being developed at Celebration Park in Vinton.
Your help is needed to collect photos of your success and your story of fishing on the Cedar. Check photo albums, boxes of old photos – and check your digital photos. Photos of children, young adults, and older adults are all needed. Even your grandpa and grandma. Names will probably not be used on each photo. Part of the fun will be to examine the many photos on the display and identify our friends.
Your photos will be returned if you enclose a return envelope. The photos will be transferred to a computer and printed on a section of the “Celebrate the Cedar River” exhibit.
Digital photos at the best resolution can be sent in JPG format to Bo Wood at: tharpdesign1@hotmail.com
Photos can be mailed to Ann Harrison, 802 West 8th Street, Vinton, IA 52349.
Displays are now being developed so photo submissions need to be made by February 15, 2016.
The River display building has been built at Celebration Park. Panels for the display are being developed by Monkeytown and Tharp Design. Over three fourths of the $60,000 budget has been donated by the people of the community. Additional tax-free donations can be made out to VCF-VGFA, Celebrate the Cedar River (Vinton Community Foundation, Vinton Guild of Fine Arts, Celebrate the Cedar River). Contributions to the project can be mailed to Vinton Community Foundation, PO Box 112, Vinton, IA 52349.
Plans are to unveil the exhibit in late Spring, 2016 at Celebration Park. Members of the planning committee are: Don Eells, Therese Foth, Russ & Barb Glime, Bob and Ann Harrison, Jody Herger, Dick and Joyce Kenney, Bart Klinzing, Bob LaGrange, Chuck Meredith, and Brian Parr.
