A couple of World War II veterans with Vinton connections have been added to the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight, which left this morning from Cedar Rapids to the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C.

David Schirm, who farms in the Vinton and Benton County areas, served in the Army and landed in France. Former POW David Springer, another area residen, has also joined the Honor Flight.

More than 100 veterans will make the one-day trip to DC to see the WWII Memorial and other memorials to veterans. They will also enjoy a bus tour of the Nation's Capital.
