Don Logan, former educator in the Benton Community School District and Virginia Gay Foundation member, was honored with an award for his dedication as a volunteer with the Foster Care Review Board.

In a Star Press Union report, the Foster Care Revew Board characterized the reasons for Don's award by saying, "Don's experience in education and counseling is an incredible asset to the board. His thoughful, tactful, yet investigative approach gets to the heart of tough issues while demonstrating utmost respect for the children, families, and professionals at the review."

In addition to the Foster Care Review Board, Don and his wife Jan have given time and talent to many other organizations. They include the Benton Community School District, Virginia Gay Hospital and Clinics, the Van Horne United Methodist Church, Benton County Food Bank, Van Horne Library, Boy Scouts, Benton County Mental Health, the Eastern Iowa United Way Board, and the Van Horne Lions Club.

In a Virginia Gay magazine article highlighting the Logans, Gary Zittergruen, Superintendent of the Benton Community Schools said, “Don and Jan Logan continue to have a positive impact on their home community and the Benton County area through a servant-based approach and actions. They have continued to contribute in so many positive ways to their school and community. They actively give of their time and talents and their efforts are greatly appreciated.”

All of Benton County is the beneficiary of the Logans' continued volunteer commitments. Congratulations Don!

He truly cares about students, inspiring them to work hard. By sharing his expertise and supporting students to aim high, Don changes lives.
