On Thursday, September 24th, four Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter members attended the Teach Ag Day, held at Hawkeye Community College, from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm. The members that attended consisted of Jessica Alderson, Katie Isbell, Kayla Schneider, and Sarah Siglin.

The girls had the opportunity to learn about four separate agricultural colleges; including Dordt, Iowa State University, Hawkeye Community College, and Northwest Missouri State. Staff representatives from each school talked to the attending FFA members about their schools and answered questions that students had, varying from foreign language need to the environment of the campus. After the staff representatives talked, student representatives from the colleges made an appearance and discussed what their college load is like and what they plan to do after college.

Besides learning more about the colleges, students also learned more about the agriculture education position. Four Ag Teachers and FFA Advisors, including our very own Mrs. Heeren, had the chance to talk about their job. This included their favorite parts, what they hope to accomplish while teaching, and how they decided on being an ag teacher.

The students that attended learned a lot about Agriculture Education, which fueled the fire that the students had in becoming a teacher for ag. It was a really great time, learning about agriculture and interacting with others from different schools and colleges!
