Band members are selling tickets for the 'Wake up with the Band' fund-raiser through Sept. 17.

The Vinton-Shellsburg High School Marching Band is continuing its "Wake up with the Band" fund-raiser for a fourth consecutive year.

Through Friday, Sept. 17, band members and their families are selling raffle tickets for $1 each or 6 for $5. The winning ticket will be drawn Sept. 20, during Homecoming week.

The winning ticket holder can choose which person they want the band to wake up on Thursday, Sept. 23 -- which happens to be Pajama Day of Homecoming Week. Many of the band members will be wearing their PJs while waking up the lucky winner's choice at 6:30 a.m.

All proceeds go toward the VSHS Band Activity Account, which helps to pay for instrument purchases and other band items and activities.

Band Director Karl Smith thanked the community for its generous support of the band. The musicians will continue to prepare for their October contests and will play some of their routine during half-time of the varsity footbal game this Friday.
