Several Musical Theatre Intensive performers from Minnesota State-Mankato were invited to perform during a recent festival at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Among them was Erin Horst of Vinton, the daughter of Gerald and Marcy Horst.

Erin was one of the performers in “The Gun Song,” from the musical “Assassins.” In this song, Erin played the role of Sara Jane Moore, one of two women who aimed a gun at President Gerald Ford in 1975. Erin had earlier played that role in the MS-Mankato production of that musical.

The trip to D.C. gave Erin and her fellow actors a chance to attend workshops led by Broadway actors, casting directors, directors and dancers.

"The Kennedy Center was an amazing experience. I had the opportunity to work with so many talented and wonderful actors. not to mention performing on the Kennedy Center Stage,” she said. “There were lots of opportunities for networking. It was a huge honor and a total rush."

In addition to “The Gun Song” which featured Adam Yankowy, Erin Horst, James Ehlenz and Matthew Stairs; another group sang “People Like Us” from The Wild Party. Performers from Minnesota State-Mankato in that song were Cassandra Johnson and Jordan Oxborough.
