From the checkout aisles at Fareway, to the sidelines of Vinton-Shellsburg football games to the center court of Vikettte volleyball games to the window of Nature's Corner flower shop to area schools and churches and countless other place, area residents showed their support of breast cancer survivors with a large month-long display of pink.

The celebration wrapped up on Tuesday as the survivors received donations from Fareway, where about 20 employees paid $5 each to wear pink on Oct. 31; and Nature's Corner, where the "Bling a Bra" contest raised nearly $300.

At Tuesday's Breast Cancer Survivors meeting, $290.09 was donated from natures corner for the "Bling a Bra" contest, and $155.00 was donated from employees at Fareway for pink day. The breast cancer survivors group meets once a month at Windsor manor.

JW November 5, 2014, 8:31 pm Thank you to V-S students, team members and coaches for showing your support for breast cancer. Also, Survivors of Benton County would like to thank Fareway employees, Cindy Elwick and Nature\'s Corner plus Vinton Today for your contributions to our group. As Dawn said, this is not a club with sought after membership. But it is a group of Benton County women who are here for each other, raise money to fight this disease and to promote awareness. Your support is most appreciated. You are all very special people! Thank you.
DY November 5, 2014, 4:43 pm It is so nice to see the community supporting the fight against breast cancer. It is said that everyone will know someone personally that has had breast cancer. The support group that we have, which meets once a month at Windsor Manor, is sadly growing every year. It is not a group that I wanted to belong to, but it is nice to be able to talk with other survivors about all issues involved, and I encourage anyone who has had breast cancer to come to our meetings.
