Although black gold are the favorite colors of Vinton-Shellsburg athletes and fans, on two nights this week, the students and athletes wore some different colors as they showed their love of their country and their support for another school dealing with an unthinkable tragedy.
First, on Thursday, the VS Vikettes wore "Bobcat Strong" shirts when they played a match against Western Dubuque. The Vikettes are among several area teams to offer some small tribute to the school and the four students from Western Dubuque who recently died in an ATV accident.
Then on Friday, when the Vikings hosted Charles City in football, the student body members dressed in red, white, and blue, as the school marked the anniversary on Thursday of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Several students also wore bandanas and a few painted flags on their faces.
