At about 7:00 pm on Saturday, Aug. 2, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a missing person in the Cedar River about ½ mile south of the Benton / Buchanan Road southwest of Brandon.
It was reported that subjects were boating about 1/2 mile south of the Mount Auburn boat dock, when Jennifer Frye, 42, of Garrison, went under the water and had not resurfaced; she had been gone for 25-30 minutes.
Further reports indicated that Frye had taken off swimming from a sandbar, without a lifejacket, gone around a bend, and now could not be located.
Members of the Mt. Auburn Fire Dept. would locate Frye at about 7:19 p.m.; she was found uninjured and declined medical treatment.
Responding to the incident were the Mt. Auburn /Garrison Fire Dept., Vinton Fire Dept., La Porte City Fire Dept, and Benton County Sheriff’s Rescue.
Jennifer Frye was arrested for public intoxication, and transported to the Benton County Jail.
Trent Hoppe, 35, of Garrison, was also arrested for public intoxication and transported to the Benton County Jail.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
