April brought to many Vinton residents an introduction to PH (pulmonary hypertension) as local resident Trudy Seidel shared her story and began announcing the first Pray Phor a Cure event to raise funds to fight the illness.

Members of the Iowa Pyrotechnic Association held their first meeting of the year at Chuck Yedlik's Bar-Y Ranch, where they meet a few times each year. They began planning the 2013 Boomtown, which took place in August.

For the fourth year in a row, the Vinton-Shellsburg High School art department brought home the Best of Show in 3D from the Wamac Art Show, with Tiffany Auen and Steph Berry sharing top honors in that category.
Vinton native Jody Wood Nelson was one of the runners in the 2013 Boston Marathon, where terrorists exploded two bombs near the finish line. She shared with Vinton Today readers her experience there as well as its significance in her life.
The Vinton AMVETS Post changed its name to honor two Vinton women who served their country, Marion Gualtier and Phyllis Kulaszewski.
Tilford Music Teacher Connie Zenk was honored during her last concert before retirement.
