After every school board election, the Vinton-Shellsburg school district officially "retires" the old board, wrapping up unfinished business, before formally recognizing the "new board."

In most cases, the old board and new board include the same individuals; some years they are totally identical.

This year, there is only one difference in the old and new boards. Kathy Van Steenhuyse was elected to finish the term of Tim Bird. Board incumbents Sue Gates, Rob Levis and Mike Timmermans were re-elected to their positions during the Sept. 10 elections.

Board members elected Gates as President and Levis as Vice-President. The members will also serve on a variety of committees as well as participating in the monthly meetings.
