Vinton-Shellsburg John Frazier received some good news regarding the future of the VS girls' cross country team as young V-S runner Grace Horst was the top female in the annual "Bring the Noise" 5K organized by the Vinton Kiwanis Club. Jordan Yessak, a freshman who runs for the Dunkerton cross country team, was the fastest among men runners.

Both teenagers won the 13-19 age group during Saturday's race.

Approximately 80 people signed up for the third annual event, which takes place on the Saturday morning of Boomtown weekend.

The Vinton Chiropractic team had several of its members, including some new walking and running participants, involved in the event. This team has set a goal of running at least one event each month.

Two of the Vinton Chiropractic team members created a unique team. Runner Malea Lee was nursing a sore ankle; teammate Ashley Hesson offered to pull her in a wagon while jogging. With the exception of a couple of steep downhill stretches, that is what happened. The audience applauded as Ashley jogged across the finish line, Malea tagging along in a green John Deere wagon, which was tied to Ashley's waist with a rope. Malea said she plans to compete in a few weeks, although as a runner next time.

A new group of runners has also entered the race for the first time. A group of ladies from St. Paul's Methodist Church in La Porte City has recently signed up for the Run for God health and devotion program, which stresses physical and spiritual health.
