Throughout Iowa on Friday night, a problem with the 911 system computers in many areas is causing some 911 calls made from cell phones to be routed to the wrong dispatchers. The Iowa State Patrol says those answering calls are able to forward them to the appropriate district. There is no word on how long the problem will continue.
A Benton County dispatcher said tonight that the 911 call center in Vinton has neither received any calls, or any forwarded calls. State officials have contacted local dispatchers about the outage, but have not been able to pass on specific information about which areas are experiencing the problem.
If you have an emergency and are unable to get through to 911, the direct number for the Benton County Sheriff's office is: 319-472-2337
